1. What is ZoneMaintenance?
ZoneMaintenance is the term used for the new method of carrying out servicing to mobile equipment. The machine is broken up into 6 major Zones. Each Zone is then assessed for the tasks, parts, tooling, safety requirements or risks and specification required. The focus is to eliminate waste during the servicing process.
2. What are the benefits of ZoneMaintenance?
2. What are the benefits of ZoneMaintenance?
ZoneMaintenance is designed to eliminate waste from within the Scheduled Servicing Process. Adopting this process will guarantee greater efficiencies quickly and effectively.

- Increase to bottom line through greater productivity both production and resources
- Optimisation of skilled and non skilled labour
3. How long does it take to do a ZoneMaintenance service?
3. How long does it take to do a ZoneMaintenance service?
This varies with each machine type and which service is being carried out. Typically a 30% reduction in downtime is recognised when following this process. Other efficiencies, such as parts kits, tooling availability, minor engineering changes and improved planning can increase this further.
4. Which machines has ZoneMaintenance being designed for?
4. Which machines has ZoneMaintenance being designed for?
We can apply ZoneMaintenance to any large Mining machine. We have work completed on the following;
- Caterpillar Trucks
- Hitachi Shovels and Excavators
- Caterpillar Dozers and Graders
- Sandvik Drills
- Underground Mining Equipment
- Fixed Plant as well
The methods are simple, to be successful, it requires the team of dedicated management and workers prepared accept the need to change towards an improved method of maintenance.
6. What is the process behind ZoneMaintenance?
6. What is the process behind ZoneMaintenance?
As each machine is broken into 6 sections, the process starts at Zone 1, this is always the engine. The Inspector completes the inspection of Zone 1 before moving to the next Zone. Once Zone 1 has been inspected the Technicians carry out their duties in Zone 1 and work their way around each Zone following the specially designed service sheets.
8. Who carries out ZoneMaintenance services?
8. Who carries out ZoneMaintenance services?
The work is split into two roles, An Inspector and Technicians (typically 2 technicians are all that is required). The Inspector completes tasks relating to checking, inspecting, and testing type actions while the Technicians carry out the cleaning, changing, filling type actions.
9. What are the steps to get started?
9. What are the steps to get started?
We follow a 4 step process;
- Site Review – where Senior Management approves an onsite review before we start.
- Development – ZMI develops the new ZoneMaintenance Service Sheets and implementation strategy, off site.
- Implementation – Client and ZMI work together through the training and awareness, change management and implementation of ZoneMaintenance. This is generally a 4-6mth process.
- Follow Up Review – regular follow ups and audits of the compliance to the process is conducted every 3 months for an agreed period. During this period clear goals are set and strategy to achieve is agreed to by both parties.
